So this morning I get information about 8646 being due into Wes Chicago at 1:00 in the afternoon. My friend, Larris (Larry84988) was camping out in Elmhurst waiting for the train as well, but at 9 in the morning. I thought he was a tard. But sure enough he texts me at around 9:30 and says that 8646 went through. So I get up and go, I wanted to go to West Chicago but that obviously wouldn't work for this train, so I did the next best thing, and that was to go to my favorite crossing on the UP Geneva Sub, Chase Street in Wheaton. The reason this is my favorite crossing is because of the e-bell that is placed on the north side signal. With a good 10 seconds to get the camera out of the bag I got the CNW flying running wrong main through the vatican city. When the train cleared I took an extra video of the e-bell, which is already on my channel "Freaky E-bell." A quick drive to Spaulding brings some insane shit. When I Was crossing the tracks on Bartlette Road I see not only a north bound dead N21, with two J SD38-2's, an EJ&E crane train is also parked in the siding! I parked the car in a near by neighborhood and brought my Cannon Digital Rebel, and my scanner, incase I heard something about someone trespassing. "Ok, we got a track train going south down the J right?" "That's correct, I'll have you guys going south at signal command." "Ok, sounds good." I thought they were talking to the J MofW train set, so I run back to the car as quick as possible to get my video camera and tripod, but when I cross the tracks there is a light. I didn't know what to do, go to Spaulding junction, or stay where I was and get a shot of everything J along with what ever this would be. So instead I drive around trying to find a place to park closer to the equipment but of course that doesn't work... So once again, I get a video of the train from the car. Some weird Loram piece of equipment glides south down the J, and apparently took the switch at Wayne and went west down the Freeport all the way to Debuque! The rest of the day was spent at West Chicago, Qnuts showed up like 30 minutes before I had to go. Before he showed up the line was hopping with activity and variety.
