Everyday Cinematic Birds | Tiny Baby Cardinal Left Alone As Storm Moves In! Poor Chick! @EverydayCinematicBirds | Uploaded October 2021 | Updated October 2024, 11 hours ago.
This baby Cardinal is only hours old as it faces its first threat from nature. A bad storm line approached in the morning bringing high gusty winds. The mother Cardinal decided to leave the nest as the storm front arrived. The poor helpless chick was left alone as it was bounced around in the nest from the high winds. The chick was confused by the wind and movement thinking it was a parent arriving with food. It's a bit sad to see this chick begging for food as its nest is blown up and down by the winds. I kept a close eye on the chick to make sure to was ok in the storm. The footage is grainy as it got very dark out as the storm moved in. Luckily the mom returned to protect her baby chick before the rain arrived. Rain can kill newly hatched chicks very quickly since they cannot regulate their body temperature. I think this storm did weaken the chick though, as afterwards the chick was almost unresponsive. I did some time lapses in this video to speed up the footage so you can see the whole event.
