The 7th challenge of Season 12 saw us playing Lords of Thunder on the Sega CD released in 1995 by Hudson Soft chosen by SignosisSTG.
Lords of Thunder is a high-octane, side-scrolling shoot-'em-up that swaps traditional sci-fi themes for a heavy metal fantasy setting. Players control a god-knight who can choose from four elemental armors to combat the demonic hordes of the Garuda Empire across six distinct, player-selectable stages. The game is acclaimed for its intense, guitar-driven soundtrack, large screen-filling bosses, and a strategic shop system to upgrade weapons between stages. While often considered a slightly easier port compared to the TurboDuo original, it is widely regarded as one of the best shooters available on the Sega CD.
I did find this shmup on the easy side tbh which was a nice relief from the brutal difficulty of the last challenge. After a few attempts I managed to 1CC the game which I'm very pleased with, here's my run....
