It sure does feel like something has unlocked. I don't know how to describe it. It's like all of the sudden I can see with different eyes, or like I've developed a new sense.
A long time ago I put up a video asking if it was possible to find flow. Flow is that state where everything just becomes automatic. It's when all of the pieces click together and you exceed the sum of all of those pieces. I had a conversation with Drew Camden one time, and he asked me how often I fall into flow. I had to tell him I never had.
I still haven't. But what I'm finding now, what I experienced today, was walking out with one intention. I was going to learn something and I was going to throw myself at the sky until I learned it or until I had no resources left. Intentional practice combined with the willingness to throw everything away has taken me somewhere new. It's still not flow.
I'm a worship leader at heart. Ever since I was a kid I've been going to church. In those times of worship when I was young, times when I felt closest to God, I learned what intimacy was. As I grew older, I learned how to play guitar and taught myself how to sing. I combined them.
And then one day I had the absolute pleasure of stepping on stage at a small church that I was attending and leading the people there in worship. As I sang and played, and as the band played around me, that's when I experienced flow. It didn't matter that I'm not the best guitar player or that I form my vowels incorrectly when I sing. The people followed, and as they followed they worshipped. It was a simple thing, really.
Compared to that, I am not sure that FPV will ever really have a "flow state" for me. It might, it's entirely possible. Maybe one day I'll walk out onto some field and I'll make something completely majestic.
In the meantime, I'm going to throw myself at the sky with abandon.
