The day started with leftover baler footage, then quickly turned into pivot chaos. We were stacking hay, checking moisture levels, and fighting wet bales before shifting to ditch work to prep water for the potatoes. Some fields are drying for wheat harvest, others need careful fertilizer adjustments. In between, we tackled manure spreader gearbox problems (including one completely cracked case) and got pivots running—until one stopped. A walkout to the fourth tower revealed the dreaded gearbox failure: the coupler between the motor and gearbox had snapped, leaving the wheel spinning in mud. Add in regrowth hay, plugged nozzles, hornets’ nests, and overflowing ditches… and it was one of those days where irrigation, repairs, and harvest prep all collided. Farming isn’t just planting and harvesting—it’s solving problems in real time!
