Abscission is a 32 map megawad released in 2023 by Snaxalotl, notable for its adherence to vanilla compatibility and stock texture usage, minus custom skies, and its atmospheric and chilling soundtrack which the author herself also composed. The elevator pitch of this wad, is that it’s almost a dark reimagining of the Doom 2 story, but it’s a pitch that sells Abscission short. What begins as a bleak and twisted exploration of the classic Doom 2 journey, piggybacking off the ethos of the author’s previous wad, Stickney Installation, quickly unfolds into something more layered and interesting than just “Doom 2 but the dark world version”.
