I don't even know how to begin to describe this one, which claimed top spot in the 2022 Cacowards. Dripping with surreal weirdness and fully committed to an abstract and somewhat ostentatious style, The Magenta Spire is certainly distinct from the other Cacoward 2022 winners that pull up alongside it. Far from being thoughtless or slapdash, while the style may prove a high barrier of accessibility to some, packed inside is measured experimentation with monsters, weapons, combat design, and of course, color pallets.
Maps so far barely touch against the realm of "realistic", instead leaning toward trippy and almost nightmarish. Combat encounters are well thought out and provide for some exciting gameplay. This one won't be for everybody, but then again, it's not trying to be all things to all people.
