Are your hands truly independent—or are you unknowingly balancing on the reins?
In this video, I'm breaking down one of the most common rider issues that can sabotage your horse's training: lack of independent hands. I'll show you how to test your hand independence, explain the signs you're accidentally balancing on the reins, and share simple exercises to fix it — whether you're just starting out or have years in the saddle.
You'll learn:
✅ How to test your hand independence
✅ Common faults in walk, rising trot, and sitting trot
✅ The link between your seat and your hands
✅ Exercises I use (and you can, too!) to improve contact and softness
✅ Why independent hands matter for your horse’s comfort and development
💡 Independent hands aren’t something you magically get overnight—they take awareness, consistency, and time. I’m working on them too!
➡️ Try the exercises and let me know in the comments what you discover. I’d love to hear from you!
