Getting A Horse Back In Work After 3 Years Off can be a little overwhelming but I just take them back to basics and work my way forward from there. Horses have an amazing memory and don't forget their prior training so it is just a matter of seeing where they are at.
This video shows Ava's first time in the round yard after 3 and a bit years off, in the video, I say 2 1/2 years but I checked after I filmed and I am out by a year 🙄 it's actually 3 years 4 months 😳. I start with groundwork basics, these are groundwork exercises you would use with young horses, spooky horses or horses that need some ground manners.

You need to have a good, stable leg position while riding your horse to give your horse correct and reproducible leg aids. If you cant do this, you risk confusing your horse, and then the horse has no chance of doing what you request of him. In this video, I explain what the correct leg position looks like. First, I explain the classically correct leg position, then I tell you about the 2 most common faults riders have with their leg position, and then if you wait until the end, I give you a tip on leg pressure.
This horse riding lesson is for beginners through to advanced riders. If you want to train your horse you need to have a correct horse rider position as it is your most valuable asset.
