A British nanotech company named, Surrey NanoSystems, has created the world's darkest material, which they named as Vantablack. It is so dark that the human eye can't discern its shape and form, creating what has been called a black coloured hole.
Vantablack is made up of millions of carbon nanotubes, each measuring 2 or 3 nanometers, due to which it can absorb 99.96% of all light that hits it and even laser can't be seen on it. Conventional black, such as black paint or fabric, absorbs between 95% and 98% of light.
The material is designed to help air-borne cameras, telescopes and infrared scanning systems to work more efficiently by reducing extra light. It can also be used as a paint. Since no light can pass through, it can also absorb heat effectively. Military clients are lining up to buy it, so as the space industry.
