In 1840, John W. Draper captured the first ever image of the moon, from his rooftop observatory at New York University. It was a daguerrotype photograph of the moon. Then 5 years later,
On 2 April 1845, Louis Fizeau and Leon Foucault captured the first ever image of the sun, from the earth. It was again a 5-inch daguerrotype photograph of the sun, showing many details including a few sunspots.
After that, several other photographs of the sun and moon were taken but none of them are as complementary and historic as they were. Then, nearly a century later another iconic photograph was captured, it was the first photograph of the space.
On 24 October 1946, a rocket had been launched from the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, USA. It went 105 km above the ground and captured the first ever image of space. After all these years, these images are still iconic.
