For the first time in nearly 10 years, I’m back in North Carolina! Today’s episode takes us to Hendersonville at The Baker’s Box, where I’ll be taking on their “Kessel Run” Giant Deli Sandwich Challenge!
The Baker's Box is a locally owned bakery and deli known for its made-from-scratch food, sandwiches, gourmet desserts, and homemade ice cream. Opened by culinary school graduates George and Mara Nicholas, the restaurant combines George’s passion for savory dishes with Mara’s expertise in pastry arts, offering everything from paninis and wraps to fresh salads and rotating seasonal desserts. The restaurant has also become a local favorite for its impressive collection of LEGO displays, movie memorabilia, and unique décor that makes it one of the most coolest dining spots in Hendersonville.
The “Kessel Run” Challenge features a giant deli sandwich built on a beautiful challah bun that’s smothered in chipotle mayo. It’s loaded with one pound each of ham, turkey, and roast beef, then topped with three different cheeses: cheddar, Swiss, and provolone. To finish it off, the sandwich is piled with their Silly Dilly pickles, fresh lettuce, and tomatoes. On the side, you’ll also get a full pound of their fresh-cut, house-made fries. If you can finish everything within 45 minutes, you’ll earn the $50 meal free, a T-shirt, and a spot on their Wall of Fame.
