In 1968 Burt Bacharach wrote this tune and Herb Alpert sang it. It became a number one hit in just two weeks. Herb Alpert did it in one take. Such an incredible feeling shines through this song and I often found myself playing the intro on guitar and just recently decided to learn the entire song and share it with you, too. I did it in a lesson so I could watch it later and remind myself how to play it again when I forget how to.
Both Burt Bacharach and Herb Alpert are still around at this point in Oct 2020. Coincidentally I watched a premiere documentary on Herb Alpert just yesterday on You Tube. I was stunned at the many other talents Herb Alpert has. He's a a painter, creates sculptures, and was a music producer of some of the best musical acts under his label A&M records. And he of course is famous for so many of his own hit records he did with the Tijuana Brass (Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass). Watch the documentary if you get a chance. You'll enjoy it.
But, anyway back around 1971 I was only 8 yrs old and singing this song while swinging on my swing set in the back yard. Funny how I remember that and feeling so blissful and oblivious to political problems in the world, family-struggles ,etc. I was too young. I vividly recall enjoying singing great tunes in that state of euphoria. Great music had inspired me at such an early age and to this day as I learned this tune almost 50 yrs later I get that same feeling about "This Guy's In Love With You."
