Mills County General Store, Goldthwaite (2026)
There aren't many of these left.
Tucked into downtown Goldthwaite, the Mills County General Store has been doing one thing for over a hundred years: whatever this town needs. Need a bag of nails? They got it. Bike chain snapped? They'll fix it. Saddle torn up? Bring it in. And back in the day, if your horse needed... a certain procedure, well, they handled that too.
Owner Mark walks us through a store that feels frozen in time, except it's not frozen at all. It's still open, still stocked, and still the kind of place where a 90-year-old customer can walk in and remember being a kid right there in that same spot.
This is small-town Texas at its most genuine. No gimmicks, no postcard version. Just a general store doing what general stores have always done, in a Mills County town that still needs one.
