The official NBA Jam: On Fire Edition—which was developed by EA Canada—is already known for its over-the-top arcade action, monster dunks, and classic commentary by Tim Kitzrow. This version includes new online modes, updated rosters, and over 30 unlockable secret teams and legendary players.

The current fan-made NBA Jam 2020's On Fire Edition mod takes that base game and updates it substantially. This mod brings the game fully up-to-date by replacing the original rosters with teams and players from the current decade. Fan projects like the Legends On Fire Edition also introduce multiple versions of legendary NBA teams and players, allowing users to play with icons like Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant. These mods keep the spirit of the frantic 2-on-2 basketball alive by bringing the best talent from the 2020s and past decades into the classic arcade format.
