Let's take a look at an original Italian rapier from about 1600 that has an impressively long blade. Clearly made for reach, in a way that fencing master Capo Ferro would approve of.
The intricate shape, handling, and ornamental touches are above and beyond most of what you see on the sword reproduction market, at least outside of expensive custom made high-tier replicas.
Special thanks to HEMA instructor Devon Boorman for being an amazing host at Academie Duello!

![Is This Worthy of a Pirate? - Dussack by Adam Bodorics (Review)
Depending on how you like to define the terms, this could be called a cutlass (or tessack, or Sinclair Hilt saber, or maybe even storta). If you ask me, its the cooler pirate saber. ;)
Its sort of like a very short falchion with a shell guard (and thumb ring). Either way it may be small, but its a great sword design. In this video I test a reproduction dussack (or rather two different versions) made by Adam Bodorics and give you my impression of the quality, handling, etc.
*** Specifications ***
Overall length: 78 cm (30.7 in)
Weight: Light version - 748 g (1 lb 10 oz), Heavy version - 941 g (2 lbs 1 oz)
[normally I would list more measurements, but it has come to my attention that some Chinese manufacturers rip off designs and copy whatever measurements they can find]
Material: 6150 spring steel
Hilt assembly: Full tang, peened
*** Pros / Cons ***
+ Nimble (even the heavy version)
+ Very sharp edge, powerful cutter
+ Durable blade
(+ Subjective: looks awesome)
- Somewhat rough finish
- The pommel of the light version loosened up a little
