This Lewin’s Honeyeater (Meliphaga lewinii), seen munching away in the Daintree, is one of many dazzling species that call our rainforests home.
From the ancient Daintree to Gondwana and Tassie, rainforests clean our air, protect our water and provide shelter for amazing and unique species like the Musky-rat Kangaroo or dazzling Christmas Orchid.
One amazing rainforest resident is Idiospermum australiense, the ‘dinosaur tree’. This is a rare Gondwanan relic whose flower structure is almost identical to fossils from 120 million years ago.
