This Spyro the Dragon commercial features one of the strangest mascots PlayStation ever created, a sheep named Toasty who spent an entire ad campaign trying to boycott his own game. Sony released Spyro back in September 1998, and instead of a normal trailer they built out this whole bit where Toasty pickets outside game stores protesting the violence against sheep in Spyro's world, even claiming in print ads that he was pursuing actual legal action against the dragon. The costume came from The Character Shop, the same effects studio known for Planet of the Apes work, and they used a real practical animatronic suit instead of CGI specifically to stand out from the usual polished game commercials of that era. Toasty was voiced by character actor Jon Polito and physically performed by Bobby Porter, and Sony even ran a fake website called Sheep Against Spyro where Toasty called for full sheep liberation.
