Studying the wartime years of the 1940s has changed the way I think about spending money in ways I never expected.
In this video, I'm sharing 10 things I now choose to buy because of the lessons I've learned from the 1940s—from second-hand furniture and vintage homeware to household ledgers, repair supplies, radios, and practical investments that are built to last.
This isn't about romanticising the past or wishing to live in another era. The 1940s were incredibly difficult years, but history has so much to teach us about resilience, resourcefulness, and making the most of what we have.
For me, living within my means isn't about deprivation—it's about creating a life that feels calmer, more secure, and filled with things that genuinely serve a purpose. Along the way, I also share memories of my Nan, thoughts on financial literacy, the importance of learning household skills, and why I believe "buy once, buy well" is advice that's just as valuable today.
