The last time you could fish in California for salmon was in 2022. It was a great year, lots of trips with salmon for everyone on board, just like the previous years. Back to back bad droughts hit California and they announced in 2023 the salmon season would be completely closed. Same for 2024, no salmon fishing for anymore in the entire state. Hatcheries were getting record numbers besides the one that mattered at the end of the Sacramento River near Redding. In my mind there were a million salmon out there, while protecting an endangered run we were restricted from catching the majority of the population which is hatchery fish made for us to catch. In 2025 with quotas in place we look to get 6 days of fishing the entire year. I wish they could find a better solution. After spending 30 minutes on the water it feels like we should of gotten more then 6 days of fishing in 2025, but I am sure going to enjoy the days they give us.
