Some people thought we were crazy to pack up and leave the place we were born and raised and move to the countryside of a small island nation at the bottom of the world.
We always felt like it was the right path for us. My dad was born and raised in New Zealand and I grew up as a dual citizen of the USA and NZ.
My wife and I were living in Los Angeles and had spent a a decade working in social media and entertainment. We both loved to grow food and spend time in nature, and we wanted to start a family. I had also studied history and cultural anthropology at University and was always fascinated by hunter gatherers and early civilizations (especially the Inca and Maya).
We wanted our children to grow up surrounded by nature and connected to the land, and we wanted to get our hands dirty.
It’s been a long journey but we feel our decisions have really paid off and thank our past selves for being brave (or naive?) enough to pack up our lives, uproot and change countries to start all over again.
