I wish I was wrong, but I don’t see Soccer ⚽️ reaching the level of popularity seen in Europe and other parts of the world.
As an American living abroad who has experienced the soccer culture in Spain, England and elsewhere, I believe that top-tier American athletes will continue choosing the NFL, NBA, and MLB because that's where the real money is.
Until MLS can compete financially with these major leagues, as well as with European Football Leauges, I don't see American soccer culture changing dramatically from hosting the World Cup.
The issue is in the training pipeline, high schools and universities. Young athletes may start off by playing soccer, but soon pivot to other sports where their athleticism translates to more immidiate opportunities and financial rewards.
I hope I’m wrong, because soccer is a beautiful sport and one I’d love to see Team USA excel at.
