They called her May
No one knew why for sure
Maybe because she said the word so often
It began to sound like her
She often spoke of the month of May
And how it didn’t last that long
Said she’d hold it in her arms
Then she’d find that it was gone
May I sit here
May I stay
You may remain
Or drift away
You’d ask her things, she’d take her time
And never quite be clear
Just leave a “maybe” in the air
And let it linger there
If you asked her for her name
She’d smile and turn away
Say “it doesn’t matter much”
Or “it might be May”
May I know you
May I try
You may sit beside me
Or pass me by
They called her May
We let it be
Like something almost certain
That wasn’t meant to be
They called her May
No one knew why for sure
Maybe because she said the word so often
It began to sound like her
She often spoke of the month of May
And how it didn’t last that long
Said she’d hold it in her arms

![(Bowen Island) Rock in the Strait
Rock in the Strait (Bowen Island)
[Intro]
Yeah…
From the ferry dock to the deep woods…
Bowen stand up…
Ain’t no postcard here, this the real side.
[Verse 1]
Yo, I roll off the Queen of Cap, rain hittin’ my brim
Fog thick, cedar scent sinkin’ right in my skin
This that Gulf Island grit, no glitter, no gloss
Where the tide pull strong and the locals know the cost
Trail through the Douglas fir, keep your step tight
Cougars in the shadow and the moon don’t shine right
Killarney Lake still, but the air got weight
Out here respect’s earned, city boys meet fate
[Chorus]
Bowen Island, rock in the Strait, no bluff
Salt air in my lungs, yeah, the current’s rough
From Snug Cove docks to the mountain’s spine
We grind like the ferry runnin’ outta time
[Verse 2]
From Artisan Square to the backroad bends
Everybody know everybody, watch how you end
This ain’t Vancouver pace, nah, we move slow burn
But the gossip here travel faster than you learn
Eagles in the sky, fish boats down low
Even the calm tide hide an undertow
Winter storms hit, lights flicker, go black
That’s when you know who got your back, no slack
[Chorus]
Bowen Island, rock in the Strait, no bluff
Salt air in my lungs, yeah, the current’s rough
From Snug Cove docks to the mountain’s spine
We grind like the ferry runnin’ outta time
[Bridge]
No mall, no hype, just the forest and the swell
Some call it paradise, some call it a cell
Either way, when you’re here, you feel the pull in your chest
This the island that’ll put your city soul to the test
[Verse 3]
I’ve seen rich cats in cabins and broke kids in the rain
Artists with a dream, loggers workin’ with pain
It’s a mix, old blood and newcomers fight for ground
But the drumbeat of this place still pound for pound
Grew up on the dockside, watchin’ ferries fade
Learned that escape ain’t the same as bein’ saved
Now I rep the rock loud, let the echo fly free
Bowen Island, yeah, that’s the heart of me
[Chorus]
Bowen Island, rock in the Strait, no bluff
Salt air in my lungs, yeah, the current’s rough
From Snug Cove docks to the mountain’s spine
We grind like the ferry runnin’ outta time
[Outro]
No matter where I roam…
This island keep callin’ me home.

![I like the Bassoon Over Every Other Instrument
[Verse 1]
I like the bassoon over every other instrument
And that includes the human voice
It seems like every time I hear the bassoon playing
It drowns out all the other noise
If a song contains the bassoon
The bassoon can’t help but elevate it
If I hear one in a song
It automatically gets added to my playlist
[Chorus]
Someone decided that the bassoon
Wouldn’t occupy an orchestra’s top position
And if I ever meet that person
They’re gonna need to see a physician
That’s the only time in my life
I’ve been known to advocate violence
If I were a top conductor
I’d put them above the so-called violins
[Verse 2]
There are settings on sound systems
That will amplify the bass
I hired an engineer to make a special setting for me
That blasts bassoon right in your face
When people come by and I turn that setting on
They look at me like I’m crazy
You can keep your Geddy Lee and your Charles Mingus
I’ll keep my Monica Ellis and my Andrew Brady
[Chorus]
Someone decided that the bassoon
Wouldn’t occupy an orchestra’s top position
And if I ever meet that person
They’re gonna need to see a physician
That’s the only time in my life
I’ve been known to advocate violence
If I were a top conductor
I’d put them above the so-called violins
[Bridge]
I’m single now but I was once in a relationship
But that relationship was doomed
Because the only reason I dated them
Was because they played the bassoon
Turns out that love of the instrument
Was the only thing we had in common
Well, that was enough for me
But for them that was a problem
So they dumped me.
Whatever.
I still have my records.
[Final Chorus]
Someone decided that the bassoon
Wouldn’t occupy an orchestra’s top position
And if I ever meet that person
They’re gonna need to see a physician
That’s the only time in my life
I’ve been known to advocate violence
If I were a top conductor
I’d put them above the so-called violins
[Outro]
People ask me what about the contra bassoon
Friends, I don’t want to go that deep
I’m like a person who likes sauces
Mild and flavourful without turning up the heat I like the Bassoon Over Every Other Instrument](https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Jpycdf5ua70/mqdefault.jpg)

![Neatly Yours
Neatly Yours
[Verse 1]
I alphabetize the spices
And I fold the towels just right
I stack the forks by handle length
Before I sleep at night
I’ve got calendars with stickers
I’ve got bins for every chore
But somehow I still love you
Even when you leave the closet door ajar
[Verse 2]
You track in mud and peanut shells
You hum while reading texts
You leave the toothpaste cap off
Like it’s some kind of test
You snore in major seventh chords
And call that jazz romance
But when you pour my coffee slow
You do it like a dance
[Chorus]
So I’ll sweep, and you’ll spill
I’ll file, and you’ll freewheel
But baby, here’s the deal — I’m still yours
I’m tidy, you’re kinetic
I’m practical, poetic
We’re opposite and magnetic
I’m neatly yours
[Verse 3 ]
You made a checklist once — all scribbled in red
Then left it on the counter near the toaster and some bread
But when I cried on Tuesday
You just held me by the fridge
No plan, no fix, no calendar
Just time you didn’t track
And I’d trade all my labeled boxes
To get that moment back
[Bridge]
You say love shows up sideways
And I say it shines straight through
But maybe it’s the mess and order
That make this house feel true
[Final Chorus]
So I’ll sweep, and you’ll spill
I’ll plan, and you’ll stand still
But baby, here’s the deal — I’m still yours
You’re chaos in my Sunday
You’re footprints on clean floors
You leave your heart wide open
And I’m neatly yours
[Outro]
Yeah, you’re sloppy…
