It's been almost 10 months since the Nintendo Switch 2 launched! Today, we are breaking down my top 5 absolute MUST-HAVE accessories that will completely upgrade your gaming setup.
Anytime you get your hands on a brand new video game system, the immediate next step is figuring out which accessories are actually worth your hard-earned cash. It has been almost 10 months since the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, which has given me plenty of time to test out the good, the bad, and the completely useless add-ons for this console.
After hundreds of hours of gaming, both docked at my desk and lounging on the couch in handheld mode, I have finally narrowed down my list. What are my absolute favorite accessories for this system? What are the things that I genuinely consider to be a must-have for any Switch 2 owner? Let’s dive into my top 5 picks!
1. NYXI Legacy Joy-Con Adapters
I absolutely love these little guys. These are the Joy-Con adapters from NYXI (though a few other third-party manufacturers are starting to offer similar solutions). What makes these so incredibly valuable is that they allow you to use your original, first-generation Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons directly on the brand-new Switch 2 hardware! If you spent the last generation collecting expensive, special edition Joy-Cons, you don't have to throw them in a drawer. These adapters breathe new life into your legacy controllers, and having that backward compatibility is pretty awesome.
2. The Official Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller
Let’s be honest, Nintendo knocked it out of the park with this one. The new official Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller is nothing short of amazing. The ergonomics and weight distribution feel absolutely great in the hands—it is incredibly well-balanced for long gaming sessions. The analog sticks are buttery smooth, the inputs are razor-precise, and just like its predecessor, it boasts truly excellent battery life. If you play your Switch 2 docked on a TV or monitor, this is the gold standard for traditional controllers.
3. NYXI Hyperion 3 Joy-Con 2.0 Replacements
If you've been following the channel, you know we recently talked quite a bit about the NYXI Hyperion 3 Joy-Con replacements. As I mentioned in my dedicated review, I am not a fan of using these in their docked "pseudo Pro Controller" mode because of that center grip flaw. HOWEVER, when you slide these onto the Switch 2 and use them strictly in handheld mode? They are fantastic. They are super comfortable, they feature premium Hall effect sticks, and they completely eliminate hand cramps. We are still working on a full-blown, long-term review for these, but for pure handheld play, they are top-tier.
4. The Ultimate Handheld Gaming Grip
If you don't want to replace your Joy-Cons but still want maximum comfort, a dedicated handheld grip is the way to go. This grip is, without a doubt, the absolute best way to play the system in handheld mode right now. It fundamentally changes the ergonomics of the console. Now, I always want to be completely honest with you guys: it is not perfect. It does not feature pass-through charging for the system, and the thick plastic means it does not support scanning Amiibos. But if you can look past those two minor gripes, it is so unbelievably comfortable in the hand, and it simply works.
5. The "Sew" Compact Travel Dock
This final accessory is, to me, an absolute must-own for anyone who travels or has multiple TVs in their house. For just 35 bucks, you get a fully compatible, incredibly compact Nintendo Switch 2 dock. It features all the necessary display and USB ports right on the back, giving you everything you need without the massive footprint of the official dock. The only caveat is that you must pick up an official Nintendo OEM power supply to get this up and running safely. But once you do, this little dock lets you quickly and easily connect your Switch 2 to a second TV in the bedroom, or easily toss it in a backpack for a trip.
There you have it—my top 5 daily driver accessories for the Switch 2!
Now I want to hear from you! What are some of your absolute favorite accessories for the Nintendo Switch 2 so far? Have you found a hidden gem that I need to check out? Drop your recommendations and let me know down in the comments below!
