In 1923, a bustling zoo stood here, filled with creatures from far-off lands. Families came from miles around to marvel at the lions' roar and the monkeys' chatter, But something dark lurked behind the zoo's bright facade. A bear was poisoned by an unknown assailant, then deer died. The zoo's once-bustling pathways fell silent in the 1940s.
Today, the zoo is a ghostly shadow of its former self. Abandoned for decades, the empty animal enclosures stand as a testament to the tragedy that unfolded here. The only sounds you'll hear are the whispers of the wind and the birds chirping in the trees. But as you wander deeper into the zoo's heart, you’ll discover the remains of the stone holiday homes which still stand; a reminder of the joy and laughter that once echoed through these grounds. The zoo may be long gone, but its ghosts still linger, waiting to be uncovered.
The largest concrete swimming pool in the world is now filled with fish and memories of days long gone. You can still see the remains of the diving board and the rusted steps taking you into the water. The pool held on for three decades after the zoo closed, but this too, shut in the 1970s.
