A previous shop butchered the power steering on this 1967 Mustang hardtop — they lopped the end off the steering box to mate it to a Flaming River column, cut the shaft too short, then jammed a 19mm impact socket in the gap and held it together with booger welds. In this episode Jeff Ford tears out the "Fabricobble" and shows you how to set up a 1967 Mustang steering box the right way.
This little 302 / AOD hardtop came in for a transmission and turned into a full-systems restoration, and the steering was the scariest thing we found under it. Rather than reach for a Borgeson box, Jeff makes the case for rebuilding and running the original Ford steering box — the same basic unit Ford used from the 1960 Galaxie all the way through the 1970 Mustang — and walks through exactly what it takes to make an original box talk cleanly to a steering column of unknown origin.

• The truth about "leaky" slave cylinders (hint: it's the wrong part, not the design)
• Setting up a proper double-D steering shaft with a machined flat and a Unisteer U-joint — and why a round shaft with set screws can cost you your steering
