AKheon | The Wonderful 101 - Unite Guts break-out glitch @AKheon | Uploaded July 2020 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
Using the same mechanics loophole as before, i.e. using the Hero-menu to switch characters at a wrong time, it's possible to break out of Unite Guts.
(Note: this was played on the unpatched WiiU-version. According to "General Beatrix" this trick only works with keyboard (and with some extra limitations?) on Remastered due to different dual-screen rules.)
0:00 - if you break out of Unite Guts while running, your character will be flung forward or in air a bit. To do this, open the Hero-menu by pressing up on the d-pad, start running, then press L2 and A in a quick succession.
Normally switching characters through Hero-menu doesn't change your location at all, but apparently after a break-out like this your position can change to that of another team member?
0:19 - the significance of this is that it's possible to bypass thin walls using this movement. At any spot in any level where there's only a thin collision layer blocking two gameplay areas from each other, there's a chance you can go through.
Breaching completely flat walls is fairly unreliable, so in a RTA you'd only want to use this tactic in places where it's guaranteed to save time. Cramped spots with a low ceiling (like the first puzzle rooms) seem to work the better for this purpose.
0:33 - the rest of the video is some skips and observations from the first two levels.
(Not on the video: I also tested breaking out of Rocket and Tent forms, but got no unusual results. I only tested the latter once, though, since the timing is so difficult. Unite Spring moves your character a bit but this doesn't seem to be too useful.)
