RV life can be hectic - and even more so if you built your own RV from scratch! This is the nature of any shuttle bus conversion / skoolie project. With that in mind: in this video we did a little bit of everything.
First, we lost a hubcap... :( and were relatively shocked at the price of a new one. From there we got inspired to tackle the rear air conditioning problem. (It's not been cold since we bought the bus). What we learned is: the compressor is not kicking in. We hoped this was due to low refrigerant, and so we tested the pressure, which showed there was plenty. So we did a bit of hot wiring and made the compressor turn-- which is when the blow off valve triggered and spewed refrigerant everywhere. No sweat, we evacuated the bus, and figured it was better to leave the compressor as is-- it sounds terrible and we guess it will seize up any moment. So: we didn't fix the issue, but we got a clear diagnosis, that we can fix when we are back in Canada. (buy and install a new compressor). This was a semi-win for us.
From there: we hit the road on an adventure into the unknown. We've heard of some very affordable RV sites in near Corpus Christi-- right by the water. The trouble is: they are first come, first served. We figured we would try our luck.
We arrived around 3pm and not only found two spots... but found to adjacent spots! What luck :D. Immediately, we settled in with games and beach fun. There's plenty to do on Padre Island. (Stay tuned for Steve's windsurfing attempt).
Steve cooked up some chicken drumsticks for dinner, and, naturally, baby Jean stole the show. She's starting to crawl-- although she seems to want to bypass crawling and go right to walking. Watching her attempt to stand up, wiping out and laughing/crying... it's such a joy as a parent. Ah... what a great day of RV life.
