On Monday, September 22, incoming graduate students from all twelve of the University of Chicago's divisions and professional schools were welcomed with convocation, an annual ceremony. Held in the historic Rockefeller Chapel, convocation includes a procession of the divisions and schools' gonfalons and welcome addresses from the University President, Dr. Paul Alivisatos; Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Dr. Jason Merchant; the Aims of Graduate Education featured faculty speaker, Dr. Nicholas Hatsopoulos; the Graduate Council President, Anna Stoneman, and Assistant Provost and Executive Director of UChicagoGRAD, Brooke Carrell.
