This weekend a group of four YouTube content creators took on the Apex Everest Challenge. This challenge is based in Thirlmere in the Lake District. The idea is to hike up to the summit of Helvellyn 9.2 times to reach the total amount of elevation as Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.
Mount Everest is 8,848m or 29,032ft high. The Wainwright Helvellyn in the English Lake District is 950m or 3,117ft and is the 3rd highest mountain in England.
At the end of Day 1, the weather got so bad on Helvellyn, that the course had to be closed and a new one had to be opened up climbing up Sticks Pass. The initial ascent of Sticks Pass is really steep so it definitely wasn't an easier route plus we had to complete double the amount of hill repeats to reach the total elevation required.
My personal hiking achievements:
Day 1 - 24 miles and 10,500ft
Day 2 - 11 miles and 5,600ft
Basically, the equivalent of summiting and descending Mont Blanc from sea level in under 36 hours!
I'm not a Strava basher, but here are my rankings for the hiking segments:
3 Helvellyn segments (first day):
106 of 7059
177 of 9449
11 of 1579
Sticks Pass segment (second day):
119 of 1179
That's whilst creating content too so I'll take that!

The hiking gear I used was pretty much flawless and includes:
Salomon Super Cross 6 hiking shoes
Inov-8 345 GTX V2 hiking boots
Darn Tough socks
Various OMM gear from tops to bottoms to waterproofs
OMM and DHB base layers
Osprey Talon Velocity 20 rucksack
Leki Makalu FX trekking poles
I was camping for 3 nights and took the following camping gear:
Terra Nova Pioneer 2 tent
Flextail Gear R5 sleeping pad
Nemo Fillo Pillow
Zenbivy Light Bed
Jetboil Flash and Aeropress
Many people were taking on the hiking challenge to raise money for charity. If you can part with a few quid please support @CombatStressCharity . The two lads I saw looked broken at the end of the event. They truly gave 100% to help others in need.
