Many people have a wrong conception of what free speech really means. Bogus "hate speech" and "cancel culture" is unfortunately a part of free speech, due to the necessarily regulative aspect of speech.

Some might have the wrong idea of me saying that hate speech is an aspect of free speech just because calls to violence for instance are banned. The issue is that since media has the power to reframe what someone's legal and good statement is to something illegal and evil, beliefs that are good can be misconstrued to be "calls to violence" or any other illegal idea due to media's grasp of establishing a certain narrative. Once that narrative is set, over time you will gradually be unable to say certain things, and if nothing happens in response, this will not come to and end.
