The topic of who should become the next Batman after Bruce Wayne has been a popular talking point for quite a while now. The Bat-Family mythos in mainstream DC Comics has grown to such an extent that there's been a lot more added material to legitimize some characters picking up the mantle over others. Some of the general Bat-Family fan favorites include Nightwing, Red Hood, Batgirl, Robin, Spoiler, and others. Names like Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, or Damian Wayne often pop up when discussing the most competent Robin. Many biases might stem from how some of these characters have been depicted in outside media, whether it be from the DCAU Justice League cartoons, Young Justice, the Batman Arkham games, Injustice, Gotham Knights, etc. Characters whose concepts were derived from the idea of becoming Bruce Wayne's successor have also led to the popularity of things like Terry McGinnis in Batman Beyond.
