In June 1953 my dad took my brother and me and his trusty 8mm Kodak on a 10 day "Colorado Rail-Camera Tour" sponsored by his friend V. C. "Nick" Underwood. For me, at the ripe old age of 11 years, It was a life changing experience. By the time we returned home to Columbus, Ohio I knew that some day I would live in Colorado -- and so I have for the past 40 years.
In this second of a three part chronicle of that trip, thanks to the 8mm movies Dad took, we tour Aspen, then ride D&RGW #2, the Royal Gorge, to Colorado Springs, and visit such attractions as the Garden of the Gods, Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun, and Pikes Peak. This is truly a glimpse into a bygone era.
The background music is "Spirit of Colorado", composed for and performed by the Denver Citywide Middle School Orchestra in February 2011. Dad's great-grandson was a member of that orchestra.
