More Motown magic. Of all the Supremes hits, this one has always been near the top for me. I’d have to say that “Reflections” is my absolute favorite. I love the groove on this tune though and Benny Benjamin is fantastic as always. I also love his use of the repeated tom/snare fill as somewhat of a motif throughout the song. And how rare is it to hear a Motown song with no tambourine?
As a side note, I’m playing a snare drum that’s new to me. It’s a 70’s Gretsch 5x14 chrome over brass. I’ve had one in the past but sold it because it wasn’t really doing it for me. I could never get it to sound very good. I found this one pretty cheap recently and it sounds fantastic. I don’t know if the one I had previously was a dud but this new one tunes up great and feels really good to play.
