It's a 6-metre-diameter globe with NASA spacecraft footage of the Sun itself projected on its surface, so it seethes with solar storms as the light blazes out. Created by a collaboration of artist Alex Rinsler and solar physicist Prof. Robert Walsh of the University of Central Lancashire, it came for seven days to St Magnus Cathedral in Orkney as part of the 2023 Orkney International Science Festival and attracted record numbers. Colin Keldie's film shows how it took shape.
