The Straits Of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum Is Top Notch: Tragic History Told Well
One of the things we did when we visited the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse was to go through the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum. There have been at least 90 shipwrecks since the 1800's in the Straits of Mackinac, and the museum tells the stories of several of those tragic incidents. The Museum contains several genuine artifacts salvaged from sunken ships, and there are even models of some of the ships in their original conditions, as well as models of their wreckage sites. There are informational videos on what caused some of the accidents, as well as actual dive footage of existing sunken ships. All in all, we really enjoyed the Museum, and learned a lot about the dangers of the Straits of Mackinac. We're very glad we took the time to check out the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum.
