This video revisits the tragedy of the HMS Birkenhead, which struck a submerged rock at Danger Point, outside of Gansbaai, on the night of 26 February 1852, causing 9 officers, 349 other ranks and 87 of the ship's company to loose their lives, which lead to the building of the Danger Point lighthouse, 42 years later.
The story is wonderfully narrated by local historian, John McGregor, currently residing in nearby De Kelders, while illustrated with video, drone, timelapse and hyperlapse footage.
