So what does Natsuki Subaru find at the top of the stairs? After losing his memories, Subaru becomes completely distrustful of everyone and decides the only way to survive is to kill his companions inside the tower. But when he finally reaches the fourth floor, he’s met with a horrifying scene.
With Emilia and Beatrice still unaccounted for, Subaru continues his search until he encounters Patrasche, the first living being he’s seen since returning. In a state of paranoia, he threatens her with Julius’s broken sword, but Patrasche remains calm as Subaru breaks down completely.
A pitch-black fog then erupts from below, consuming the tower. Even then, Patrasche refuses to abandon him, carrying Subaru upward in a desperate attempt to escape. In the end, she sacrifices herself, throwing him toward the external balcony as the darkness closes in.
There, Subaru sees a white bird watching him with emotionless eyes. He then senses a presence behind him saying, “Try to catch me next time, hero,” before he is suddenly eliminated.
