Guest Speaker: Aristeidis Voulgaris and George Pistikoudis, Icarus Optomechanics
Summary: Aristedis takes us through a photographic adventure of his travels to capture 10 total solar eclipses. Learn how to take spectra during a total solar eclipse. Aristeidis also describes the Lyot filter made of quartz that he built to tune his spectrograph to capture the spectrum of Fe14, which is emitted in the solar corona. Fe14 is emitted only if the solar corona is above 2 million K. He then shows how during some eclipses, the sun was going through a sunspot minimum which results in a cooler solar corona than during other eclipses, given the lack of Fe14 emission lines.
