I recently repaired and overclocked a $49 "for parts" Intel Pentium Overdrive 63MHz processor from eBay, the place where I buy the things I later regret™. And I seem to have tamed the Shuttle HOTMESS-419... er, the Shuttle HOT-419 motherboard (though it still has its quirks and features). Paired with a Trident TGUI9440 VESA Local Bus video card, it's a formidable DOOM-playing vintage computer.
But what good is a build without a case? None. And when am I going to finish the sleeper 486 system? Tonight!
I guess it technically isn't a sleeper 486 any longer, but a real Pentium system would run circles around it. And for anyone concerned about the providence of the system, while it isn't the same 486 motherboard that was in it from the VCF East Consignment, it is a similarly-capable motherboard... just one that actually supports Write Back Cache. Even if its memory support is a bit of a headache.
Will I find all the case parts after being disassembled for over a year? Will the power supply be adequate for the system? Will I find a working optical drive? You'll have to watch to find out!

I found an SE/30 on eBay (the place where I buy the things I later regret™) that looked like a good candidate: it was auction format, the auction end time was during the day, and most importantly, there was no rust visible on the I/O ports. $208 total later (gotta pay shipping and tax), and this SE/30 has landed in the basement.
Last time we looked at this SE/30, we completed the recap and cleaned the floppy drive. Tonight, were going to test everything. And if it works, well launch the original install of WordPerfect to see how perfectly it can make my words...
Will it chime after the recap? Will the floppy drive work? Will WordPerfect for the Mac be a treat to use? Youll have to watch to find out!
