Commodore billed the VIC-20 as "The Friendly Computer" right on the front of the box. However, my VIC-20 still isn't feeling friendly... in fact, "Dr." Sloopy diagnosed the issue as a failing VIC 6560 chip.
So I did what I do best/worst: I went to eBay, the place where I buy the things I later regret™. Lo and behold, I found a tested VIC-20 motherboard, with a picture of it working, and with what appear to be correct colors on-screen, for less than a 6560 from China. One full send on the potential regrets... I mean Buy It Now later, and I have a box in the basement that is waiting for this stream.
Will it play great games? Will it have cost me under $300 by the time I have it fixed? Will I figure out what's wrong with the original VIC-20 motherboard? Will I fry a 6560 in the process? You'll have to watch to find out!

I found an SE/30 on eBay (the place where I buy the things I later regret™) that looked like a good candidate: it was auction format, the auction end time was during the day, and most importantly, there was no rust visible on the I/O ports. $208 total later (gotta pay shipping and tax), and this SE/30 has landed in the basement.
Last time we looked at this SE/30, we completed the recap and cleaned the floppy drive. Tonight, were going to test everything. And if it works, well launch the original install of WordPerfect to see how perfectly it can make my words...
Will it chime after the recap? Will the floppy drive work? Will WordPerfect for the Mac be a treat to use? Youll have to watch to find out!
