Hi there everyone, and thanks for joining today. In one of my recent Live Q&A Sessions, a viewer Trudy, thank you for this, chimed in in response to a question on training with the philosophy of “Tell, Show, and Do.” And I’ve heard this before through trainers or through some experiences I’ve had in leadership and I just thought it was fascinating and something that we needed to bring up here. A lot of you in leadership don’t have a training background. You came up through the ranks because of your excellence in particular operational positions, and you don’t have a training background, and it’s a great, simple philosophy when you need to train new-hires. You want to tell them how to do something. You want to show them how to do it. And then you want to have them actually do it. Those are the simple three steps of training. It hits the “tactile learners”, those who learn by doing. It hits the “auditory learners”, those who learn by hearing it. And then showing them how to it, tackles the “visual learners.” So you cover a broad range of people as far as getting them to understand these concepts. Also quite frankly, you can use it in delegation to a certain extent. If you don’t have the time to go through all of the steps in delegation, give it a shot with telling them how to do it. If that doesn’t work, then show them how you want it done and have them try it. And then finally, if that doesn’t work, then work with them on it until they get a level of experience and understanding to take it on themselves. But, Tell, Show, Do is a great three step process for training and a number of other things in leadership. Use it, you’ll enjoy it. Thanks.
