Hi there everybody, thanks for joining me today. We all wish that our projects and our tasks were niece and quick, we’d get them all done nice and easily and off our plate and on to the next thing. But there’s a lot of things that come up that are long range plans, and long range projects, and long range goals. And one of the biggest struggles with those longer range projects that you have is how to keep the staff motivated all the way through the process. So I’m going to go over the big hint today as far as tackling that motivation on those long range plans and those long range goals. The key is milestones. You might have a huge long range project that’s going to take six months to complete, but I guarantee that there’s milestones along the way. If you’re building a house it’s when the foundation is set, when the frames go up, when the roof’s put on, when the wiring is done, when the drywall goes in. That sort of thing. So what you want to do is those long range projects, to keep the motivation of your staff up, set milestones. So it’s not this far distant goal that they’re looking at, they’re looking at the next milestone. And then what you do is you celebrate those milestones. You recognize the effort that’s gone on to reach that particular milestone. You might have a party, it might simply be recognizing it and taking a break to see how far it is that you’ve come. But those little milestones are something that people can look forward to that’s in the near term that they can grasp, that they can see. Or as that six-month goal or project end is something that is too far away to be really much of a motivation point. The other thing as far as motivation is concerned is that’s a time to reassess what you’re doing. So your long range plan might be increasing sales 30%, and you know what, you increased sales by 7.5% in the first quarter and you are on pace to do that, but it’s also a good time to get feedback from the team, which gives them a sense of ownership and allows you to reassess the plan moving forward. So those milestones are great from a celebratory, motivation standpoint, but they’re also an opportunity for you to establish ownership with the team by getting the feedback and charting the course forward. You might make subtle adjustments that get you there quicker or get better results in the end. But when dealing with long range plans do milestones, they’ll really help as far as motivation and making the whole process go along smoother. Thanks so much, have a good one everyone.
