The RX 480 launched nearly 10 years ago in mid 2016 and was available in 4GB or 8GB versions. At the time, the 4GB card was absolutely fine especially if you wanted to save a bit of money.
These days, they are so close in price that I'd strongly recommend the 8GB card, which will be a lot better for modern gaming.
