With the recent announcement of the Mario & Luigi series making its long awaited return this year, I think it’s fair to say that Mario RPG fans have been eating pretty good. Within the last calendar year we have gotten the Super Mario RPG remake, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door HD, and the announcement of Mario & Luigi Brothership. It wasn’t long ago that Mario RPGs were at their lowest point, with sporadic releases, often of varying quality. For 6 of the 7 years the Switch was on the market, Mario RPGs seemed to have been forgotten. But suddenly, Nintendo opened the floodgates, giving us three highly requested releases that many thought would never actually happen in the span of just a couple months. In today’s video I want to talk about the rise, fall, and resurgence of Mario RPGs to figure out how we got here.
