When I made my first impressions video on Highguard, I ended it by saying if things don’t work out, I’ll see you all back here for the How NOT to Save a Game video about it. Well, just a little over a month later, here we are folks. I’m sure most of you have at least heard about Highguard, the most tumultuous release of 2026 so far. But in my opinion, much of the coverage online has been missing the mark. It’s easy to say “the game was bad”, but that’s oversimplying it. Highguard is one of the strangest and most interesting gaming sagas I’ve seen in a while and honestly I can’t stop thinking about it. There are so many bizarre threads to pull at that all culminated into this catastrophic failure. So let’s talk about the story of Highguard. And let’s talk about how NOT to save a game.
