In this video I present a basic overview of CBK radio.
CBK (AM) — based in Watrous, Saskatchewan — is a major public-radio station on the CBC Radio One network. It first went on air on July 29, 1939 with a powerful 50,000-watt transmitter broadcasting on 540 kHz, chosen because the mineral-rich soil and flat prairie landscape around Watrous offered excellent ground conductivity for wide-area coverage.
From its Watrous transmitter, CBK serves most of southern and central Saskatchewan — including major centers like Regina and Saskatoon — and at times its signal has been picked up far beyond provincial borders.
Although the studios are now in Regina, Watrous remains the station’s official license location and continues to broadcast across the Canadian prairies.
