I'm so happy to be bringing you music from Pokémon Snap! Pokémon Snap was one of my favorite games as a kid when I was just discovering video games. My first console was the N64, and I, like many others, have huge nostalgia for this game. I knew I wanted to pay tribute to it on the channel in some way, but I never could come up with the best way to make that happen.
Earlier this year, my longtime friend Ro Panuganti told me he'd be making a trip out to Washington state, where I'm from, and we decided we wanted to work on this collaboration together! Ro was primarily visiting to investigate potential job opportunities and hang out with friends, but we decided to enhance his trip by creating a massively fun project. The Pokémon Snap OST doesn't have too many memorable songs by itself, but I think that the game can hold its own when all the songs are presented together, and that's what we aimed to do with this medley!
While making this medley sound good was certainly important to the both of us, the video aspect of the medley was another huge challenge. We put together a very ambitious plan of filming the various courses within Pokémon Snap on location in Washington state! I filmed Beach in Birch Bay, WA, during a family vacation. Ro and I took one day to film a lot of shots in my backyard, and the Opening / Rainbow Cloud shots at a nearby park. The following day, Ro, myself, and our friend Colby drove for several hours around Washington state to collect some shots. We ended up filming River at a park by the Snoqualmie River, Cave and Tunnel at an ACTUAL tunnel called the Snoqualmie Tunnel, and managed to get some beautiful scenery for Volcano and Valley at the Gingko Petrified Forest park in Central WA! It was such a huge day of filming, followed by many rounds of editing, color grading, mixing, and Pokémon VFX'ing. We're all very excited to share this with you - thanks for watching!
