Here's the first redo of an older track for the Year of Sinnoh! Lots of people have been asking me if I will redo old arrangements for the Year of Sinnoh, and the answer is 100% yes! The point of this project is to create the best arrangements I can of the music from this wonderful soundtrack, so of course I'm going to give each track a complete treatment and bring it sounding up-to-date!
When I was picking tunes for the Sinnoh Fusion Ensemble to play, there was a moment when I realized all the tunes we were playing were high-energy fast bops, and we could really benefit from some contrast. That's what made me end up going with this tune for the band! I still really like the old arrangement of this song I made back at the tail end of 2017, but I think this new arrangement does a great job of capturing the atmosphere of Snowpoint City as well! Similar to the original cover, I wanted to arrange the song in a way that captures both a sense of adventure and the delicate, soft nature of Snowpoint City. I've been a fan of snow and winter for pretty much my whole life, so naturally, video game winter themes are some of my favorite tunes to cover!
The structure of this arrangement is actually pretty much identical to the first arrangement, so I'll just go over the main changes between the two versions! Obviously, there are some instrumentation differences - I don't play the flugelhorn, trombone, or violin, and having those added into the mix was really nice! Having these warm brass colors really made the complex horn voicings feel a lot cosier, and the violin's high shimmer added just the right amount of sparkle on the top. Ricky's sensitivity on the shakers / wind chimes was also super appreciated - that added a lot of depth! Jonathan's synth solo is just out of this world... to me this is the "Lingus Cory Henry solo" of the Sinnoh Fusion Ensemble stuff we've recorded so far, haha!
