Really this trip was all about reaching the Alps and the ascent to 9200ft - the Col de la Bonette - a Fat Man on a 125cc bike but first came the "hors d'oeuvres" - I first had to ascend the Col de Vars the winter sports mecca at 7000ft.
I had certain things in common with other *BRITISH* bikers who wear sensible clothing - we all got soaked with sweat in temperatures in the high 30s. We all got sore arses from being on the bike all day. "La diffƩrence" was that THEY did it faster than me but THEY would have been SO busy making sure they stayed upright as they shot through the mountain roads at 60+mph that they are bound to have missed the vistas that I saw. Without those stunning views, this ride would have been nothing but torture!!
So bear in mind that I had intended to get off and plant the camera on fence posts, gates and trees so I could do "drive bys" and also to get the drone out, but not once in the 13 days I was there, did I feel capable of stopping to expose myself to the heat. I can only say "SORRY" !
